EGYPT

בראשית י"ג:י'

Large, fertile country in the north-east of Africa on the Nile river. Throughout the period of the forefathers, Egypt was a haven from famine in Canaan. Bnei Yisrael were enslaved there, until the miraculous Exodus from Egypt. Egypt was an influential empire throughout the biblical period - at times as a threat and at times viewed as a potential ally against Assyria and Babylon. Egypt's military was well known for their horses and chariots. Many prophecies describe the destruction of Egypt.
