Kiryat Ye'arim

Kiryat Ye'arim, also called Kiryat Baal and Baala, is a city in the territory of Yehuda which borders the territory of Binyamin.

Currently identified with Tel Kiryat Ye'arim (Y. Aharoni).
 

  • Kiryat Ye'arim is one of the cities of the Gibeonim (Joshua 9, 17). 
  • Men of the tribe of Dan encamped at Kiryat Ye'arim on their way northward (Judges 18, 12).
  • Kiryat Ye'arim was home to the Ark of the Covenant during the days of Shmuel-- until David brought the Ark to Jerusalem (I Samuel 6, 21; 7, 1-2, I Chronicles 13, 5-6; II Chronicles 1, 4).
  • Kiryat Ye'arim was one of the cities settled during the time of the Return to Zion (Nehemiah 7, 29).
